KENNEL SPONSOR PROGRAM
CCHS is launching a "kennel sponsor" fundraiser to purchase kennel decking for the dogs. As many of you know, the dogs are on concrete at the shelter which can be tough on them in the winter months because the floors often stay wet after cleaning. We are investigating alternative flooring - including radiant heating - but that is a massive undertaking. As a quicker and more affordable option, we are purchasing VetChoice Kennel Platforms for the kennels. These are sections of sturdy, no-skid, heavy plastic that are pieced together to create a raised floor. We currently have some of the puppy kennels on this decking and it is wonderful. It will dry after cleaning, has groves that direct urine away from the pups, and they really seem to do much better on this surface. Each platform is 2' X 2' and the cost is roughly $10 per platform - depending on the number ordered (the more ordered the cheaper the price - over 60 platforms drops the price to $9.60 per platform). The majority of our kennels are 10' X 10' for a total of 100 square feet to cover which is essentially 25 platforms. We are ordering these platforms from Snow County Pets and you can see these platforms at www.snowcountrypets.com .
In efforts to help get as many kennels as possible - we have 22 adult dog kennels needing to be covered - we are asking for "kennel sponsors" at a cost of $300. This amount will purchase enough decking for the kennel and also allow for the entire kennel to stand on the platforms without any "gaps" which could encourage chewing, helps keep the entire kennel clean, contributes towards the cost of shipping, and can also purchase a house if that kennel is in need of a new dog house. Donors will receive a picture of the pooch on your decking and an update on that kennel's resident. As a dog leaves for a new home and another comes in, you'll get to meet your new benefactor. Donors will also be recognized with signs on the kennel stating who the donor is as well as signs on a "kennel sponsor" board in the front lobby.
The success of the Annual Banquet was wonderful and that money is currently being spent on direct animal care - food, catching up on spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, and vet bills which average between $2000-$4000 a month depending on the number of alter surgeries and the health of new animals coming in. It is very important for CCHS to maintain liquid cash earmarked for animal care and the banquet's proceeds are being channeled in that direction. As a result, the kennel decking is an additional expense that could jeopardize expenses that must be met in order to prepare dogs and cats for adoption and to care for them while they wait.
If you want to come and see the decking already in place, you can now do it on Saturday!! As well as regular kennel hours. CCHS will be open on Saturdays from now on from 10:00-3:00. People who have expressed interest in volunteering but could not come during the week, now have an opportunity to do so on Saturday, and these new open hours also make it easier for out-of-town residents to come and adopt their new fur-kid. You can also follow the kennel sponsor program - and all other announcements of CCHS happenings - on Facebook. So, point and click your way into being our "friend"!
As always, thanks for everything you do for CCHS. The animals certainly thank you the most!
